Global industrial minerals company founded in 1872, headquartered in Antwerp, with 118 production sites in 31 countries and over 5,000 employees. It mines, processes and sells industrial minerals, mainly silica, clays, feldspathics and olivine, and is also a glass recycler. For coatings it supplies fillers and extenders for gloss control, rheology, durability, scrub resistance and hiding power in architectural, automotive and car refinish, general industrial, marine, OEM, powder and wood coatings, with materials such as aluminium oxide, baryte, bauxite, calcium carbonate and cristobalite; its wider range also includes silica, kaolin, feldspar and nepheline syenite. Its PORTARYTE natural baryte (barium sulphate) is used in coatings for UV and chemical resistance, sandability and gloss control, and as a lower-cost replacement for precipitated baryte, and in plastics for soundproofing and opacity.
