Cancarb Limited (Tokai Carbon Group)
About
Thermal carbon black maker in Medicine Hat, Alberta, established in 1973 and part of the Tokai Carbon Group since 2014. It makes only thermal (medium thermal) carbon black, produced by thermal decomposition of natural gas, at what it calls the world's largest thermal carbon black plant, with an annual capacity of 54,000 t and about 85 employees. Its Thermax range has ten grades, including N990 soft pellets, low-PAH N990 CG, N991 powder, Ultra Pure and low-extractables Stainless grades. Carbocolor is a concrete colorant for a dark grey colour with blue undertone, used in pavers, block, brick, roof tiles and precast products as an alternative to iron oxide; N990 is also used as a black pigment in PVC, HDPE film and polypropylene, alongside its main uses in rubber, insulation, metallurgy and refractories.
