About
US producer of kaolin (hydrous and calcined aluminium silicate) pigments and extenders, founded by Malcolm S. Burgess Sr., who chartered Burgess Pigment Company in 1948; ISO 9001 certified plant in operation since 1948. Its history page says it started as a calcining operation for the rubber industry, put the first patented flash calciner into production in 1964, and expanded to paints and coatings, concrete and ink, with capacity for more than 100,000 tons. Products include OPTIWHITE, OPTIWHITE MX and OPTIWHITE P flash-calcined clays (to lower TiO2 levels, control sheen and improve tint strength), conventionally calcined grades (ICECAP-K, ICEBERG, No. 50, CB surface-modified) and water-washed and delaminated hydrous kaolins (No. 10 to No. 400, POLYCLAY, THERMO GLACE) for coatings, polymers, adhesives, cement and concrete, inks and polishes. Sold worldwide through distributors.
